Our (Woodford Racing) six two year old colts shipped out of Ocala, Florida and have arrived in New York and Kentucky. Since being purchased at the August 2017 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Yearling Sale or September 2017 Keeneland Yearling Sale the colts have been in Ocala learning how to become race horses. Three of the colts are at trainer Chad Brown’s Saratoga Racetrack Stable (New York) and three are at trainer Steve Asmussen’s Keeneland Race Course Stable (Kentucky).
The names for each of the colts have been approved by The Jockey Club and their is a story behind each of them!

Rogues Road
Rogues Road is by the Sire (Father) Quality Road and the Dam (Mother) Princess Aspen. The name Rogues Road is a play on the name of the Sire, Quality Road. Quality Road was born and raised at Spring Hill Farm in Virginia and Rogues Road runs along the perimeter of Spring Hill Farm.

New Mexico
New Mexico is by the Sire (Father) Malibu Moon and the Dam (Mother) Royal Irish Lass.New Mexico is a state that borders Arizona and Texas!

Militiaman
Militiaman is by the Sire (Father) Broken Vow and the Dam (Mother) Classic Strike. The name Militiaman is a play on the dam’s name, Classic Strike.

Wilmington
Wilmington is by the Sire (Father) Union Rags and the Dam (Mother) Skyskape.
The name Wilmington is a play on the name of the sire, Union Rags. Union Rags was bred and raced by Phyllis Mills Wyeth from Wilmington, Delaware.

Stanton
Stanton is by the Sire (Father) Lemon Drop Kid and the Dam (Mother) Home Run.
The name Stanton is a play on the name of the Dam, Home Run. Giancarlo Stanton is an outfielder with the New York Yankees who is known for his ability to hit home runs!


Dark Hedges
Dark Hedges is by the Sire (Father) Giant’s Causeway and the Dam (Mother) Pay Lady. The name Dark Hedges is a play on the name of the Sire, Giant’s Causeway. The Dark Hedges is an avenue of beech trees in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The trees form an atmospheric tunnel that has been used as a location in HBO’s popular series “Game of Thrones”. The actual Giant’s Causeway is also located in County Antrim.
Wilmington, Stanton and Dark Hedges all had their “official” first recorded workout yesterday (Wednesday, May 23) at Keeneland (watch video). Each horse went 3 furlongs (3/8th’s of a mile) in 38 seconds. Their workouts will gradually increase to a 1/2 mile and then 5/8th’s of a mile before their first race.
