The 2023 Triple Crown moves to Baltimore, Maryland this Saturday for the 148th running of the Preakness Stakes. Kentucky Derby Winner Mage will attempt to add the second jewel against a field of seven opponents. One of the storylines in this year’s renewal of the Preakness Stakes is Mage is the only participant who ran in the 2023 Kentucky Derby. Time will tell if this becomes a trend or simply the fact trainers for various reasons decided to go in another direction with their respective 2023 Kentucky Derby starters.

We (Woodford Racing, Lanes End Farm, Phipps Stable, Ken Langone and Edward J. Hudson, Jr.) decided to take on Mage in the Preakness Stakes with our horse Perform. Perform enters the race off back to back wins with the most recent being the Federico Tesio Stakes at Laurel Park.

Perform winning Federico Tesio Stakes

The Preakness Stakes distance of one mile and 3/16th’s should not be an issue for Perform. He has been a different horse since we began running him in longer races around two turns. The Preakness is a rematch of sorts as Perform ran fourth to Mage at Gulfstream Park in January.

Post time is 7:01 PM (EST) on Saturday and Perform will leave from post position #6.
