While the weather did not cooperate yesterday at Belmont Park, it was a great way to celebrate Mother’s Day with family and friends. With a steady rain falling all day and the track officially listed as “muddy”, we were anxious to see one of our (Woodford Racing) horses (Engage) compete in the $100,000 Gold Fever Stakes.

When the starting gate opened, Engage was content to settle off the quick early pace. At the top of the stretch, jockey Jose Ortiz asked Engage to run and run he did. Engage and the eventual second place runner, Forced, battled the length of the stretch with Engage prevailing by a nose (video link of race).

After the race the New York Racing Association awarded us a “gold” platter in the Winner’s Circle and no one seemed to mind getting a little wet!
