While the 2018 Kentucky Derby (May 5, 2018) is a long way off, the first Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool opens on Thursday. Pool #1 is conducted November 23-26 and is one of four pools that will be offered by Churchill Downs between now and the running of the Kentucky Derby on the “First Saturday in May”. The other Future Wager Pools will be offered:
February 9 – 11
March 9-11
April 6-8
I have a particular interest in Pool #1 this year as one of our horses (Woodford Racing) is in the Pool! That’s right, Engage is one of the 24 betting interests being offered. Engage is a promising 2 year old who won The Futurity, a Grade 3 Stakes at Belmont in October. The 24 betting interests include 23 named horses and an “all other wager”. The “all other” wager essentially means you believe the winner of the 2018 Kentucky Derby is not among the 23 named horses.

In addition to “Win” wagers you can also make “Exacta” wagers in Pool #1. An “Exacta” wager involves picking the first and second place finishers in the 2018 Kentucky Derby. Actual odds you will receive on your wagers will be determined when Pool #1 closes on Sunday (November 26) evening.
