Each year, the racing season concludes with The Breeders Cup World Championships, fourteen races showcasing the best horses from throughout the world. This year The Breeders Cup will be conducted under the Twin Spires at Churchill Downs (Louisville, Kentucky) on Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3. The fourteen races are all Grade 1’s and in aggregate represent $30 million in purses.
On Friday, November 2 the five races are all for 2 year old horses and will showcase thoroughbred racing’s “Stars of the Future”.
- Juvenile $2 million – 1 1/16 miles on dirt for colts
- Juvenile Turf $1 million – 1 mile on grass for colts
- Juvenile Fillies $2 million – 1 1/16 miles on dirt for fillies
- Juvenile Turf Fillies $1 million – 1 mile on grass for fillies
- Juvenile Turf Sprint $1 million – 11/16th’s of a mile on grass for colts and fillies
On Saturday, November 3 the nine races are all for horses 3 years old or older.
- Filly and Mare Sprint $1 million – 7/8th’s of a mile on the dirt for fillies and mares
- Turf Sprint $1 million – 11/16th’s of a mile on grass for colts/geldings and fillies/mares
- Dirt Mile $1 million – 1 mile on the dirt for colts/geldings and fillies/mares
- Filly and Mare Turf $2 million – 1 3/8th’s miles on the turf for fillies and mares
- Sprint $2 million – 3/4’s of a mile on the dirt for colts/geldings and fillies/mares
- Mile $2 million – 1 mile on the grass for colts/geldings and fillies/mares
- Distaff $2 million – 1 1/8 miles on the dirt for fillies and mares
- Longines Turf $4 million – 1 1/2 miles on the grass for colts/geldings
- Classic $6 million – 1 1/4 miles on the dirt for colts/geldings and fillies/mares
Catapult, one of our (Woodford Racing) horses will be running in the $2 Million Breeders Cup Mile on the turf. We are thrilled to be competing on thoroughbred racing’s biggest stage at an iconic racing venue.
