Racehorses begin their racing careers at age two. While not every horse will race at two, many do. It’s exciting to have a two year old starter because you might be unveiling racing’s next star. If a horse is not ready to race at two it’s normally due to sustaining an injury, not being ready mentally or possibly being behind with their physical development.

While our trainers have some sense where each two year old will be successful, it’s as much art as it is science. Will they prefer running on the dirt or turf? Will they prefer a muddy track or soft turf? Will they want to sprint or run longer distances? The answers to all these questions will take time.

In 2025, we (Woodford Racing, Peter Dorsman Racing, LLC) have twenty three two year old colts and fillies that could potentially begin racing. Some have had an initial start, some will start soon, some will start in the Fall and some won’t race until 2026. Twenty of the twenty three have been named and below is the current roster!

  • City of Gold (City of Light)
